Fundamentals of Anti-oppression dives deeper than your typical diversity and inclusion workshop. In this workshop, participants are given the opportunity to explore systemic oppression, social justice, privilege, identity and allyship through a variety of engaging activities. Through self-reflection, community- based inquiry, lessons from history and collaborative problem solving, participants gain the knowledge and skills to view the world through an anti- oppressive lens.

Workshop 2: Contemplative practices and the pedagogy of hope (Invite-Only)

Across cultures, world views and across time, human beings have utilized contemplative practices to focus, build, and deepen conscious awareness, and cultivate their potential to lead meaningful and fulfilling lives. Contemplative pedagogy infuses teaching & learning with the experience of introspection and reflection that fosters internalization and authentic change.  This critical, first-person wondering, can be transformative in the development of equanimity, empathy, and compassion.  How might the qualities of hope inform new and future possibilities in social and organizational contexts?  This workshop will support and enact personal vocabularies of hope, nourishing positive sentiment and generative action.  Participants will engage in guided mindfulness-based meditation practice to support insight and discovery.

In this conversation and dialogue, RAN co-chair Sharanjit (Sharn) Kaur Sandhra and RAN member Bretty Pardy will share RAN's work in building a capacity of hope through the radical truth telling we have been in engaged in since April, 2020 in particular. We will be discussing the changing shape of RAN through its engagement with students in particular at UFV, and through social media channels, and how these avenues of engagement have built capacity for dialogue amongst, within and through youth, and Indigenous, Black, Brown, POC intersectional youth perspectives and why this is critical for the future of RAN.

Join this interactive, hands-on workshop and grow your own sense of hope. Develop an understanding of where you are on your own career journey, considering the questions you have, and how to make effective career decisions. Gain clarity as you identify what attracts you to certain types of workplaces, and how to explore career possibilities as they relate to your values. Grounded in the Hope-Action Theory, participants can expect to take part in an actively engaged learning environment, with cameras and microphones on, ready to move, write, and explore, creating connections between hopefulness and career development.
