Jean Johnson
Preston Middle School, Choir Director

Jean Johnson is the choral director at Preston Middle School where she also co-directs the musical. She has been teaching 26 years with experience from elementary, middle school, high school and college levels. Jean earned her Bachelor of Music Degree from University of Wyoming and her Master of Music from CSU. Ms. Johnson is pleased to once again bring a choir to perform at CMEA and is proud of the collaborative work in this performance.

Ms. Johnson serves as the assistant conductor of the Larimer Chorale ( a 100 voice symphonic chorus based in Fort Collins), where she also directs the Larimer Chorale’s Dickens Carolers. She continues to be an active singer and believes that it is important as a music educator to continue to perform. Ms. Johnson has sung with the Larimer Chorale on several European Tours.

Scott Wheeler
Kinard Core Knowledge Middle School, Choir Director

Scott Wheeler is the choral/drama director at Kinard Core Knowledge Middle School. Mr. Wheeler has been teaching music and drama in Poudre School District since 1997 and is a Fort Collins native and a 5th generation native Coloradoan. He earned his Bachelor of Music Education degree from CSU and his Masters of Music from UNC. Scott was the original music teacher at Traut Core Knowledge Elementary in 1998 and started teaching at Kinard in 2005. He is the only National Board Certified Music Teacher in Poudre School District.

This is Scott’s 7th ensemble to perform at CMEA. His choirs have performed at the Colorado Senate Chambers, the Colorado Rockies and Eagles, the Windy City Youth Choral Festival in Chicago, and the Carnegie Hall premier of Alexander L’Estrange’s Zimbe! The Kinard Choirs won the NoBully. org I Have a Voice National Choir Competition in 2019 and performed with NBC’s The Voice finalist Wé McDonald.  This choir will be participating in the Choirs of America Nationals for Top Choirs in New York City in April 2022. When not teaching or performing, Scott’s heart and home are with his wife, Jana, and his two kids, Joey & Marissa.
