THE CUSTODIAN ROUNDTABLE: RE-IMAGINING NEW PERSPECTIVES IN CONTEMPORARY ART
Featuring new leading voices of contemporary art in Nigeria, this session will highlight the role of curators, writers, art dealers and collectors in the production of artistic meaning or theoretical reflection and projection of trends in contemporary art. It will explore their individual methodologies and how they generate new knowledge and new voices through their work. In addition to this, the conversation will examine the importance of research in art practice and how it formulates questions and creates emancipation from black figuration and hyper black bodies art. In turn, artistic research will be positioned as a tool for generating new perspectives, engaging social and political issues, and championing cross-disciplinary practices. The conversation further delves into the entry point for collecting art and how collectors can become patrons to support the community. It also raises the question of How do we create room for young collectors to purchase works by their contemporaries? How do we curate exhibitions for young artists? What are the steps towards a sustainable artistic career?
