Unboxing Humans
Danielle Boris
Danielle Boris
Sandbox, Founder, CEO

Work puts people in boxes labeled by job title. This siloing not only limits talent development, but also inhibits organizations from leveraging the full knowledge, skill sets, and innovation in their workforces. Only by unboxing humans, and tapping into what makes every individual unique (and weird!) can employees, managers, and organizations all win together. Danielle Boris, CEO and Founder of Sandbox will show leaders how to look beneath the surface of their team members to effectively leverage their talent. Through an interest-first approach, leaders walk away with practical tools to attract and retain great talent, turn unconscious bias into conscious action, and align the right people to the right work! Talent wants purposeful and fulfilling work, which is great news for leaders who know how to unbox their workforce.

Fundraising is hard, no matter how you do it. What's worse is going through a process with investors that don't understand your mission or the passion of your community who believes in it. Since 2016, the SEC now allows companies to raise funds from investors of all types with Regulation Crowdfunding and Regulation A+. Companies can raise up to $5M and $75M respectively from both accredited and non-accredited investors each year, giving their champions real skin in the game. This discussion will highlight the benefits and drawbacks of community fundraising, and how founders can evaluate funding portals when considering such a raise. This panel will highlight various funding portals with a local Austin presence.

Startups that need compliance must follow a growing number of security standards – SOC 2, ISO 27001, PCI, HIPAA, and GDPR, to name a few. Every standard gives rise to a list of hard-to-implement security controls. The nature of your product or service, the customers you sell to, and the geographies you operate in will dictate the standards that you either need to comply with or map your policies and controls to align with. While cloud providers like AWS have tried to help and provide the raw materials necessary to remain compliant, there is still significant effort left for startups to ensure they are securing their infrastructure correctly - the first time.

In this session, Moksh Shah of DuploCloud will present some of the best practices for implementing security and compliance controls in modern applications.

Panel Discussion: Following the short presentation, Taylor Hersom, Founder of Eden Data, and Sebastian Gomez, Business Representative at Iridian Consulting, will discuss how Security and Compliance in the Cloud Infrastructure can help startups scale up. This will be moderated by Shirley Chen, CEO and Founder of Precise.io.
