Anthony Millin

Anthony Millin is the Chair of NEXT and a trusted legal and business advisor to startup, early-stage and emerging growth companies. As a corporate and securities attorney, a successful serial entrepreneur and a venture capitalist, Anthony brings a unique legal and business perspective to advising his clients. “Anthony has had a tremendous impact on the success of my company since we were in the startup phase,” says Dale Nirvani Pfeifer, Founder and CEO of GoodWorld. “He has not only provided sound and creative legal support, but has also served as a key business advisor throughout the growth of my company.” Anthony understands firsthand what it takes to start, scale and manage a company, to successfully prepare for and run a fund raising process, and to address the legal issues faced by a startup. Bob Balk
Pier 70 Ventures, Co-Founder, Managing Director

Six-time Paralympian and Paralympic medalist. Bob has competed in four winter games (cross country skiing)(1994,98,2002,2006) and two summer games (athletics)(1996,2000). He has also been active in Wheelchair basketball (1990-Current), Sled Hockey (2013-Present), Canoe/Kayak (2010-14) where he competed and medaled at the World Championship level.

Bob’s professional career began with The Boeing Company where he worked his way up to Manager, Global Venture Capital Investments responsible for the management of a $250M venture capital fund of funds for Phantom Works, the advanced technology division of the company. Since leaving Boeing in 2006 Bob created Lakeshore Services, Inc. where he provides consulting and services, primarily in venture capital and financial service businesses. He is currently working at Pier 70 Ventures raising a $200M venture fund with an investment focus on the commercial application of advanced aerospace technology.

John Keeling
The Motley Fool, Venture Partner & Senior Vice President, Business Development

John has lead The Motley Fool’s business development team for over 10 years. He is also a venture partner with Motley Fool Ventures, an early stage venture fund. Prior to The Motley Fool, he was a Vice President of Product Management at Aol where he led the development of Aol’s Money and Finance, Personalization, Voice and other products. John was also a Principal Consultant at Netscape Communications where he led the development of messaging platforms for a number of corporate, ISP and brokerage clients. As a graduate student at Stanford, John helped found And Communications, a website development firm that included Apple, Cisco and National Semiconductor as clients. He serves on the board of Homecare.com, Upskill, Legacy Farms Virginia and 2Gether International.

Kirsten Brecht Baker
Jeenie, CEO & Co-Founder

Kirsten Brecht Baker is a serial entrepreneur with 15+ years of experience building technology-based companies that solve everyday problems. Currently, Mrs. Baker is the CEO & Co-Founder of Jeenie – a mobile platform that connects users to a video/audio call with a live interpreter for on-demand language assistance, anywhere in the world ...24/7. Think “Uber” for interpreters.
Prior to Jeenie, Mrs. Baker co-founded four other companies in the areas of online digital marketplace and cross-cultural market development. Mrs. Baker served as CEO for three of these companies including Global Professional Search (GPS), New City Companies, and Constellar Group. Prior, Mrs. Baker worked for Monitor Company--a leading strategic consulting firm co-founded by Michael Porter and later acquired by Deloitte. She also served as the Chief Marketing and New Markets Officer for an international non-profit organization concentrated on education, language immersion, and multiculturalism in over 80 countries. She has a diverse background working in growth strategy, international market expansion, marketing and business development for companies from start-up to Fortune 50 status. She holds an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, and a BA in Political Science and Russian from the University of Pennsylvania.

Shy Pahlevani
Hungry, Founder & President

Shy Pahlevani is a successful D.C. based serial entrepreneur. He and his brother Eman founded LiveSafe - a leading mobile safety communications platform that crowd-sources safety intelligence. The brothers teamed up with friend & business partner Jeff Grass to successfully grow LiveSafe into a global enterprise. The trio would raise $20 million dollars for LiveSafe from 3 tech titan billionaire backers including Steve Case, Barry Diller, & Fred Smith that would take the brand international. LiveSafe now actively protects more than 3 million people across the Fortune 1,000, universities, and sporting arenas.

Later in 2017, Shy, Eman and Jeff again teamed up to create food-tech platform HUNGRY - the first ever online catering marketplace connecting local top chefs with offices in need of food. The company grew quickly from a $1 million dollar run rate to nearly $20 million dollar run rate in less than 24 months. HUNGRY launched in several new markets in 2019 and today operates in a $65 billion dollar catering market within D.C., Philadelphia, Atlanta, Boston, Austin, Dallas, California, and NYC. Notable investors include JAY-Z, Usher, Kevin Hart, Walter Robb the founder of Whole Foods, and Seth Goldman founder of Honest Tea, as well as Bravo's Top Chef Tom Colicchio.

Throughout his startup career, Shy has been recognized as one of D.C.’s Top Young Entrepreneurs & Washington Business Journals’ 40 Under 40. Shy is on Arlington Chamber of Commerce's Board. Shy currently holds 2 patents and was EY 2019 Entrepreneur of the Year Finalist. Shy lives is Washington D.C. where both companies are based.
