Karl Popham currently leads the utility’s Emerging Technologies and Electric Vehicle teams. This includes Austin Energy’s award winning Plug-In Everywhere™ network and Plug-In Partners™ program. He is a project sponsor of the Department of Energy grants, “The Texas River Cities Electric Vehicle Initiative” and the “Texas Fuel Independence Project”. Popham has more than 20 years experience in emerging technologies, leadership, and consulting. Prior to his current role, he was Austin Energy’s interim Chief Information Officer, Division Manager of the Program Management Office, and managed the utility’s largest IT project of record. Before joining Austin Energy, Karl was an Outsourcing Executive at Hewlett-Packard Services, Director with Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, and a Captain in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
