Jim Templin
AAL, Project Manager

LTC Jim Templin is a career Army officer who has spent the past 18 years serving in the Infantry and Special Forces. Now, he applies that same boots-on-the-ground agility and get-things-done tenacity to his role as a Program Manager with the Army Applications Laboratory (AAL). Far beyond an administrative role, Jim works at the heart of AAL’s Cohort Program — and beyond — to accelerate dual-use technology development.

During his impressive Army career, Jim completed seven overseas deployments across the Middle East, South Asia, and Central America. He has been a professional advisor and problem-solver for most of his career, leading small teams in austere conditions with 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne) and helping solve strategic problems with Asymmetric Warfare Group. Today, Jim is a Certified Project Director who uses his expertise in advising, leading, and networking to help diverse groups of people better understand and solve wicked problems — together.

Jim is the father of three beautiful daughters (13, 9, and 6) and currently lives in Austin, TX, with his wife Monica, a freelance comics creator.

Putting innovators, experts, and end-users in close contact produces results. That’s not news for the commercial market; it’s a model that industry has been refining for years. But it is a critical shift for the U.S. military — and a powerful business model that the Army Applications Laboratory (AAL) activated through its Cohort Program.

In this session, companies that have participated in AAL cohorts will take the stage alongside Army leaders and PMs to talk about how the Cohort Program works, why it works, and what it will take to scale this novel approach to solution innovation across a million-person organization. Join us to find out how this model is driving culture change and collaborative solutions for the Army.
