Valeria Mejia

Valeria Mejia has been the ADA Coordinator for the City of Miami Beach since 2014 after working 13yrs as ADA consultant/specialist in the private sector. She is a graduate architect with extensive technical knowledge in ADA related codes. As ADA Coordinator, she is also the liaison to the Disability Access Committee, a board of 14 residents/business representatives in Miami Beach either with disabilities or with an interest in the disability world; the board meets monthly to discuss different ADA related matters and sends communications to the Mayor and Commission on residents ADA suggestions or concerns. Ms. Mejia reviews city projects and/or events on public property, provides accommodations to both members of the public and staff as needed, and provides disability sensitivity trainings to staff. In addition, Ms. Mejia developed internal guides for accessibility in special events and accessibility during construction to assist staff in reviewing these permits. Ms. Mejia maintains on-going training and learning via constant consultation and training with state and federal agencies, as well as working with local resource agencies on additional services for the community.
