From Trauma to Growth: Is there a Path?

Zoom 52

Rabbi Ben Berger is excited about leading, learning, and teaching. He's especially passionate about working on ways to get others to those things too. Hillel has been a huge part of his life since college, it's where he met his wife Rachel (who also works for Hillel) and where he has spent much of his adult life. Ben has four amazing daughters whom he hopes will one day show up at their Hillel. He is the Vice President of Jewish Education and Experience at Hillel International, formerly worked at The Wexner Foundation as Program Director and before that was the Senior Jewish Educator at the Ohio State University. Ben was ordained by Yeshivat Chovevei Torah Rabbinical School and is currently a Wexner Field Fellow and slightly obsessed with the Peloton.

We’re living in harrowing times. We are experiencing both a collective and personal type of deep, lasting trauma during this period of turmoil, illness, and loss. Anyone who has experienced trauma knows that it’s not something we can just wish away, it is something that will live with us throughout our lives. We also know that we can and must learn to live with it and not let it destroy us. In this session, we’ll explore a Jewish response to trauma in the context of our moment and think about how that might propel us forward rather than hold us back.
