Out of the Pit: Resilience in the Book of Genesis

We are living in a time when resilience is a trait that is especially valued and necessary. The Bible provides an interesting model of resilience. While many of our patriarchs and matriarchs suffered physically, emotionally, and spiritually, remarkably, we don't see them ultimately wallowing in self pity and pain. We don't see them acting as Jonah does at the end of the book bearing his name even though many of them suffered far more than he did. Why is that and how does it impact on our reading of the Book of Genesis? As importantly, we will analyze these biblical forbears as models for our own time.
