Culture + Community: Black and African American Perspectives on Creativity, Trustworthiness, Welcoming, and Wellbeing
This session will share insights from a new study exploring the perspectives of 50 Black and African American participants across the U.S.—part of an ongoing pandemic-era national research collaboration, “Culture + Community in a Time of Transformation: A Special Edition of Culture Track.” Initial research had revealed some unique experiences and perspectives that Black and African American adults in the U.S. have in relation to cultural engagement, connection with arts and culture, and social change. To understand these perspective in a deeper and more holistic way, this study explores the dynamics of self-care, creativity, trustworthiness, welcome, and how these concepts connect toward individual and community wellbeing. We’ll also discuss strategic provocations to rethink key concepts in the cultural sector that inform practice, funding, and policy across the arts and culture field.
