Spotlight: World Premiere of Netflix Original Series "Medical Police"

Join us for a World Premiere screening and panel for the new Netflix Original Series "Medical Police," with the cast and creators, including Rob Huebel, Erinn Hayes, Sarayu Blue, David Wain, Jonathan Stern and Krister Johnson, moderated by Beth Lisick.

From the inimitable team behind "Childrens Hospital," "Medical Police" follows two American physicians (Erinn Hayes and Rob Huebel) stationed at a pediatric hospital in São Paulo, Brazil who unwittingly discover a civilization-threatening virus. They're soon recruited as secret government agents and find themselves in a race against time to find a cure, all the while uncovering a dark conspiracy at the center of the outbreak. Building on the legacy of its predecessor "Childrens Hospital," "Medical Police" triples as an action-packed thriller, a mystery-wrapped love story and, ultimately, a globetrotting comedy series.

"Medical Police" stars Erinn Hayes, Rob Huebel, Sarayu Blue, Rob Corddry, Henry Winkler, Malin Akerman, Ken Marino and Lake Bell. Jason Schwartzman and Fred Melamed, among others, guest star. Co-creators Krister Johnson, Rob Corddry, Jonathan Stern and David Wain serve as executive producers and writers, respectively.

Lakeview: Crowd Working for the Weekend with Kaseem Bentley

Comedian Kaseem Bentley has been a mainstay of the Bay Area comedy scene for years. On the heels of the release of his hilarious debut album, Lakeview, he’s taking his show on the road, bringing his knack for crowd work to rooms beyond the bay.

The SF Chronicle writes: “Bentley earns his largest laughs in spontaneous moments”. And it’s true. Kaseem has a knack for finding new and singular moments each time he performs whether its playfully skewering the top 1% at a show in one of SF’s elite private tech clubs or holding court for his people at The Rite Spot in The Mission.

Kaseem bars no holds and minces no words, speaking candidly about sensitive topics like race, religion and PC culture, but does so in a way that doesn’t come across as inflammatory or cruel. He skewers such subjects in an endearing and empathetic way, managing to win over even those in the audience that he mines for humor. ($18, All Ages)

Edinburgh Spotlight: Josie Long: Tender

Three-time Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee and very-hard-to-pin-down-indie-underdog-nightmare Josie Long is back with a brand-new show after a brief hiatus, during which she had a baby and so on.

It’s about the mind-bending intensity of new motherhood, but mostly about kindness, gentleness, and joy – all in all, the edgiest thing you will see this year.

The aim is for you to come out of it feeling optimistic about the future, although that is a big ask. At the very least there will be some really silly voices in it, and that’s not nothing.

‘Full of love and defiant joy.’

Andie Main is a Portland based comedian who just completed moderating and writing the show A Town Hall with Paul Ryan starring Chris Fairbanks, which toured in midwestern swingstates the day after Paul Ryan announced his retirement.
