Mohammadhossein Reshadi, Machine Learning Engineer at Samdesk, M.Sc. University of Alberta. During my M.Sc. research I worked on Deep Anomaly Detection and ever since I’ve been mainly focused on Natural Language Processing.

Abstract:
Samdesk is a global disruption monitoring platform powered by big data and artificial intelligence. Industry-leading AI technology allows us to notify samdesk customers of crises 45 minutes faster on average vs traditional media. We detect events in real-time from social media and provide info about: what’s happening, where it’s taking place, source trustworthiness, and more. Arnold Gihozo is the Lead Software Engineer at Areto Labs, a fast-growing company aimed to create technology for social good. As a recent graduate from the University of Alberta, Arnold’s passion lies in helping grow and improve communities through technology. That passion led him to Areto Labs, in which he is involved in many of the Machine Learning and groundbreaking projects the company is working on. Currently, his focus lies on leading a software team in building a solid back-end system, supporting the learning and development of the Machine Learning model and building a world-class infrastructure! 

Abstract:
The move to remote workspaces has led to more companies using Slack and Microsoft teams as communication tools. At Areto Labs, we asked ourselves the question, how can we make digital communities more inclusive? The answer to that question was Coach, an automated bot you can install in your Slack workspaces that generates prompts for your team to engage with. Coach helps you create a more inclusive workspace and increase the engagement of members by getting them to interact with each other on a familiar subject and providing insights on that engagement. We use different tools such as elastic search to generate and display the data to our customers. In this talk, I will outline Coach's journey from an MVP product to its current stage and its future state with Machine Learning.
