Program-Related Investments: A Capital Tool for Social Enterprises
As Venn’s Director of Social Enterprise Division and General Counsel, Jann draws upon 30+ years of experience as an attorney in corporate and nonprofit law. She also brings to Venn an array of nonprofit board leadership and other volunteer experience.
Jamie graduated from Carleton College and spent the first ten years of her career in advertising and marketing roles split between Fallon (Minneapolis-based advertising agency) and 3M (consumer business group). She pursued the full-time MBA program at the Carlson School of Management, as a transition-point in search of more impact-driven work. Having played sports her whole life through college, where she was a two-sport student athlete, she attributes much of her professional success to the leadership skills she developed on the athletic court and field—and has a passion for helping more girls have access to those developmental opportunities. It was during her MBA experience that she met Fatimah and fell in love with the important work that she was doing, and now leads operations and marketing for the company.
Fatimah founded ASIYA after nearly a decade of volunteer work in a Minneapolis community, where she formed a non-profit, the G.I.R.L.S. Program (Girls Initiative in Recreation and Leisurely Sports), in 2008 to provide girls-only gym time several nights a week to a primarily East African community. After successfully helping young girls try and build a passion for sports and physical fitness, she founded ASIYA to tackle the next barrier to participation—access to culturally-appropriate activewear. Fatimah was born in Somalia, and moved with her family to Minnesota when she was six years old. Driven to help in the community, she pursued her Masters in Health and Human Service Administration from St. Mary’s University, and is a Licensed Graduated Social Worker.
