The Developer Productivity Manifesto

Nnamdi Iregbulem
Lightspeed Venture Partners, Partner

A self-taught programmer turned venture capitalist, Nnamdi Iregbulem joined Lightspeed Venture Partners in 2020 with the mission to support entrepreneurs in building next-generation, productivity-enhancing software for developers and other technical knowledge workers. “I love to dig deeper and understand things from first principles. This skill is emphasized both in economics and engineering, and I apply it to nearly everything I do,” said Nnamdi. Since joining the firm, he has participated in and led 6 deals throughout the U.S. and Europe, including Redpanda, Materialize, Astro, Snorkel AI, Matillion, and Polar Signals. Two of his portfolio companies, Snorkel AI and Matillion, reached unicorn status this year. Most notably, he was featured on the 2021 Forbes 30 Under 30 Venture Capital and Venture Capital Journal’s 40 Rising Stars under the age of 40 lists. When he’s not investing in or advising startups, Nnamdi enjoys writing essays and software.

With the explosion of various developer tools and services in recent years, it's tempting to think that we've entered a golden age for software development productivity. However, contrary to popular belief, developer productivity is in fact declining, and this phenomenon risks bringing modern software development to a grinding halt in many organizations. In this talk, Nnamdi Iregbulem reveals a framework for thinking about developer productivity and charts a path toward reversing this dire trend.
