Managing Pressure Injury Prevention Across the Continuum of Care: Keeping Intact Skin Intact

Joyce is a full professor of nursing at University of Nebraska College of Nursing, a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, an internationally published expert in pressure injury prevention, a Certified Wound Care Nurse, a veteran editor of the Luckman and Sorenson Textbook of Medical Surgical Nursing, and the founder of the specialty of plastic surgical nursing. Joyce is a nurse’s nurse, having taught and mentored many nursing students, researchers, physicians, and healthcare innovators. She has served as president of the NPIAP and reviewer for the 2014 and 2019International Clinical Practice Guidelines for Pressure Ulcer Prevention and Treatment. A constant Diogenes of Nursing, Joyce is always searching for “Best Practice in Patient Care.”

Dr. Carr has dedicated her career to Home Health and Hospice with a focus in wound care, nutrition and OASIS.  Her passion and joy has been to educate thousands of healthcare professionals across the nation and enable them with the tools they need to better serve their patients.

As both a registered dietitian and podiatrist who is wound care certified, her expertise has been recognized in this area and she has been invited to speak at many state and national conferences including the Post Acute Care Symposium at SAWC and at WOW. Her unique experience as a practicing clinician, educator of clinical staff, and now consultant to the industry gives her a relevant and unique perspective in the ever-changing home health and hospice markets.

In this presentation, Dr. Black and Dr. Carr will discuss pressure injury incidence across the continuum of care.
