Protecting the neonatal patient: Developing skin, neurodevelopment and pressure injury prevention

Ann Marie Nie has worked in pediatrics for over 10 years. She obtained certification in Wound, Ostomy and Continence care in 2006. She became the first WOCN at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. While working at that medical center, she obtained her FNP and was instrumental in the development of their wound care program. Many of the pressure injury prevention measures that are used today in pediatrics were developed while she was at Cincinnati Children’s. She was recruited to work at Minnesota Children’s in 2016 where she holds the lead of the Pressure Injury HAC. She has worked with multiple disciplines to create a very robust prevention team. Ann Marie was elected to the National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel as a board member and is serving her first term. She is the chair of the small working group for Pediatric and Neonate on the revision of the International Guidelines for the Prevention and Treatment of Pressure Ulcers. She is currently in school to obtain her Nursing PhD.
